(Juneau) - The House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Representative Bruce Weyhrauch
(R-Juneau), has announced that the third hearing on the PERS/TRS issue will be held in Kenai.
The meeting will take place at the Kenai Legislative Information Office at 145 Main Street Loop, Suite 217, from 1:30 to 4:00 pm on December 7th. Public testimony will be limited to three minutes per person and written testimony needs to be received by Representative Weyhrauch's office by December 1st. Please send testimony and general information to be included in the hearing packets to Ginny Austerman at the address below.
"The purpose of this meeting is to hear from representatives of several local governments on impacts related to the unfunded liability of the PERS/TRS system, from the new Alaska Retirement Management Board on methods to fund our liability, and from the public," said Chairman Weyhrauch. "We also plan to hear information on the possible allocation of any budget surplus to this issue, or consider other sources of funds to meet our liability."
The final hearing on this issue will take place in early January when the Legislature reconvenes.
