"The conference of Alaskans should not operate in a void. It is important that the legislature observe the process and be available for the Commission should they have questions that the legislators might be able to shed light on."
- Rep. Weyhrauch
(JUNEAU) - Representative Bruce Weyhrauch (R-Juneau) will be traveling to Fairbanks this week to observe the Conference of Alaskans. The Conference was called by Governor Frank Murkowski during his State of the State address last month. The purpose of the event is to formulate ways to close Alaska's fiscal gap.
"The conference of Alaskans should not operate in a void. It is important that the legislature observe the process and be available for the Commission should they have questions that the legislators might be able to shed light on," said Representative Weyhrauch.
He went on to say, "This conference will be looking at the Permanent Fund and its possible role in closing the fiscal gap. If the conference develops proposals that make their way into legislation, then it will be important that the legislature understand the genesis of these proposals."
Representative Weyhrauch will be available to the press for comment on this and other legislative matters.
