"I am grateful that the House has taken this action to avert the possible closure of state park facilities and campgrounds."
- Rep. Stoltze
(Juneau) - An amendment to House Bill 375 that restores a proposed $350,000 cut to the Alaska State Park System, was unanimously approved by the House today. The amendment, sponsored by Representative Bill Stoltze (R-Chugiak/Mat-Su), Representative Mike Hawker (R-Anchorage), and Representative John Harris (R- Valdez), was made to the bill authorizing the state budget.
"I am grateful that the House has taken this action to avert the possible closure of state park facilities and campgrounds," said Representative Stoltze.
The amendment was co-sponsored by Bill Williams (R-Saxman). Representative Stoltze went on to say, "I am especially appreciative for the full and enthusiastic support of House Finance Co-Chairs, Representatives Harris and Williams, both key supporters of the State Park funding."
Representative Hawker, whose district is dubbed the "Chugach State Park Border District" remarked, "Our park system is one of Alaska's crown jewels. While fiscal discipline is a vital component of our financial policy, we must also provide the funding needed to protect these great resources and support the services and facilities used by Alaskans and our visitors alike."
House Bill 375 will be before the House for final passage on Tuesday.
