SCR 5 recognizes March as "Sobriety Awareness Month," and has been enacted every year since 1995, when the Legislature followed the lead of the Alaska Federation of Natives "sobriety movement."
Resolution sponsor, Sen. Ben Stevens (R-Anchorage) says he hopes the designation continues to bring notice to the disastrous effects alcohol and drug abuse has on our State.
"Alcohol and drug abuse tears apart not just families, but entire communities," said Stevens. "The tragedies associated with alcohol and drugs abuse know no racial, ethnic or economic boundaries. We as a State must never lose sight of this problem and must continue to work to combat the terrible effects of this disease."
