"We want to look at this in a full, fair and balanced manner to ensure that we have the very best pipeline proposal before us."
- Sen. Seekins
(Juneau) – Alaska lawmakers are taking an extra step to make sure they have examined the pros and cons of every proposal to commercialize Alaska's vast natural gas resources.
At the request of the Senate Special Committee on Natural Gas Development, the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee has authorized the economic consulting firm EconOne and other legislative consultants, to study the feasibility of the Alaska Gasline Port Authority's All-Alaska LNG route.
Sen. Ralph Seekins (R – Fairbanks) chairs the Senate Special Committee on Natural Gas Development, the committee responsible for reviewing all oil tax and gasline legislation. "We want to look at this in a full, fair and balanced manner to ensure that we have the very best pipeline proposal before us," said Sen. Seekins.
EconOne will work with port authority officials to thoroughly review the potential strengths and weaknesses of the LNG route. EconOne will issue its findings to the Senate Special Committee on Natural Gas Development before the end of the current special session.
