(Homer) - All salmon fishermen-permit holders, boat owners, crewmembers, tender operators and crew-may be eligible for this assistance. The eligibility requirements for each program differ, but anyone who thinks they may be eligible is encouraged to apply. For more information, contact Representative Paul Seaton's office (235-2921) or Senator Gary Stevens' office (235-0690).

  1. U.S. Department of Agriculture, Trade Adjustment Assistance. Federal program offering monetary assistance up to $10,000 per person. Apply by January 2003. www.fas.usda.gov.
  2. U.S. Department of Labor, Trade Adjustment Assistance. Federal program offering retraining assistance. No deadline to apply. www.alaskataa.com.
  3. AK Department of Labor, Fisheries Revitalization Funds. State program offering monetary assistance to low-income families. Fishermen, deckhands, and tender workers should have received an application in the mail, but if you have been overlooked contact the AK Dep. of Labor, Office of Unemployment Insurance at 907-465-5929.
