"The youth fishery has made a difference for Anchorage families."
- Rep. Samuels
(Anchorage) - The 2nd Annual Youth Fishing Day will take place June 24th and 25th in Campbell Creek in Anchorage. Representative Ralph Samuels (R-Anchorage) sponsored legislation to establish the Youth Fishery for kids 15 and under to give them the opportunity to fish for King Salmon in a non-competitive environment.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will be in charge of the day's events for kids 15 and under. Campbell Creek, from the Dimond Boulevard Bridge to Old Seward Bridge will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. both days. Kids don't need a fishing license or a king stamp, but do need a Harvest Record card, available wherever licenses are sold. Alaska Flyfishers will be patrolling the creek to help those parents and kids that may need the benefit of a little experience.
Representative Samuels will attend the event and said, "Helping young people catch a fish in their own backyard and teaching them about Alaskan values has been very rewarding for me. The youth fishery has made a difference for Anchorage families."
