- Rep. Ramras
(Fairbanks) - Representative Jay Ramras (R-Fairbanks), Co-Chair of the House Resources Committee announced today that the public can access nearly all of the information made available at the August 22nd and 23rd joint House and Senate Resources Committee and Special Committee on Oil and Gas meeting.
"The day and a half session was filled with extensive information, much of it presented in a power-point format. We have taken those and placed them on the House Resources Web page so that people who were unable to attend can learn more about the economic potentials discussed," said Representative Ramras.
The meetings, held in Fairbanks were devoted to gold production in the Interior and to the potential of natural gas in the Nenana Basin. Representative Ramras added, "Gold has been the mainstay of Alaska's economy and projects in the Interior, such as Fort Knox and Pogo, highlight the new interest in mineral development. Likewise, the potential of finding as much as three trillion cubic feet of natural gas near Nenana means Fairbanks and the railbelt could have gas service long before North Slope gas is available. I realize a lot of people could not take off from work to attend the meetings and I hope they will now take the time to review the information on the web. If commercial quantities of gas are available in Nenana, Fairbanks could see gas either being transported in liquid form or a gas line in 2009 -- nearly six years before a North Slope gas line is operating. This could mean a 40 to 50 percent reduction just in heating costs once the infrastructure is in place."
