"Renewal will still require the person to understand the course subjects and pass the test. HB 213 does not lessen the requirements."
- Rep. Ramras
(JUNEAU) - With a unanimous vote on the Senate floor yesterday, lawmakers passed House Bill 213. Agreeing with Representative Jay Ramras (R-Fairbanks) that alcohol servers actively working in the industry should not have to attend a three to four hour class every three years to renew their Alcohol Server Education Cards.
The program was instituted several years ago with the intent of unifying responsible alcohol management.
"I believe it has been a very successful program, servers use the principles of the program every hour they work. However, three to four hours in the evening or on the weekend can be very expensive in lost wages and tips," Representative Ramras said. "Renewal will still require the person to understand the course subjects and pass the test. HB 213 does not lessen the requirements. Should a server fail the test they will then be required to re-take the course."
HB 213 will be now be transmitted to the Governor to be signed into law.
