"This bill assures that when the fish hatchery is built in Fairbanks it will be called the Ruth Burnett Sport Fish Hatchery."
- Rep. Ramras
(JUNEAU) - The State House unanimously approved naming the Fairbanks Fish Hatchery after former Mayor Ruth Burnett today. House Bill 256, introduced by Representative Jay Ramras (R-Fairbanks), names the facility after the person who originally came up with the idea for the hatchery.
"Ruth Burnett was an extremely dedicated lady and I consider it an honor to have known her all of my life. She came up with the plan for a fish hatchery in Fairbanks because of the problems associated with shipping fish from Anchorage. She also worked closely with our Congressional delegation to secure federal funds for the project. This bill assures that when the fish hatchery is built in Fairbanks it will be called the Ruth Burnett Sport Fish Hatchery," Representative Ramras said. "I have to admit, naming the hatchery is the easy part of this process. The Interior Delegation now has the task of convincing the legislature to fund its construction."
