"Investigating renewable sources of energy is a great opportunity to develop a strong Alaskan economy and to provide energy for both this and future generations"
- Rep. Ramras
(JUNEAU) - Representative Jay Ramras (R-Fairbanks) introduced House Concurrent Resolution 3 today, which supports the research and development of renewable energy sources. "Investigating renewable sources of energy is a great opportunity to develop a strong Alaskan economy and to provide energy for both this and future generations," said Representative Ramras.
HCR 3 recognizes that the research conducted by the Energy Policy Task Force provided the state with valuable tools and information. Alaska now needs to move forward to fully understand future energy needs, and seek viable solutions.
This resolution highlights renewable energy as a key component of long-term, cost effective sources of energy for Alaskan communities. HCR 3 also promotes the development of renewable energy as a strong potential source of economic development.
The sources of renewable energy that have large-scale development potential in Alaska can be divided into five major categories: wind, geothermal, tidal, hydro, and biofuels.
HCR 3 further recommends the Legislature encourage Governor Murkowski's office join in taking action toward the development and production of renewable energy resources.
