An Act establishing a school disciplinary and safety program; and providing for an effective date.

This bill is to address:

• Community involvement in school behavior standards that are posted and agreed upon annually by the parents and guardians.
• Setting discipline standards and procedures for students who do not meet the school's behavior standards.
• Provision for a progressive variety of sanctions for students who do not meet the school behavior standards.
• Provision for student courts and restorative justice principles in addressing student misbehavior and applying appropriate sanctions.
• Provision for most criminal activity in schools including assault, sexual harassment against students, teachers, or staff to be dealt with by public safety officials and courts.
• Provision for crisis response plans.
