Juneau -- A public hearing on the Senate Finance Committee's budget proposals for Fiscal Year 2000 will be held via teleconference Thursday, April 15 from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. "Our goal is to reduce government spending, yet continue to provide essential services that Alaskan's expect," said Senate Co-Chair Sean Parnell (R-Anchorage). The decline in oil price and production has put a squeeze on state income. The situation is expected to continue for many years. "We must make as many reductions as possible to the budget now," said Senator John Torgerson (R-Kasilof), Co-Chair of the Senate Finance Committee. "The more money we retain in our savings account through budget cuts and wise use of assets, the more flexibility we'll have to make financial decisions in the future." | Top | Senator Parnell's Home Page | Senator Torgerson's Home Page | |
