Adds Accountability to the State Budget Process
For Immediate Release: March 23, 1998 Contact: Senator Sean Parnell at (907) 465-2995.
Juneau The Senate passed legislation Monday requiring state government to focus on results for Alaskans through established missions and measures of accountability toward those missions. Senate Bill 76, sponsored by Senator Sean Parnell, passed by a vote of 16 to 2.

SB 76 permits the Legislature to establish policy by issuing mission statements and desired results for each state agency to achieve. To accomplish this the Legislature will:
"Its time we add a measure of accountability in our budgeting process for state government. This bill will enable government to be more responsive to the needs and priorities of Alaskans," said Parnell.
