Juneau -- The Alaska House of Representatives Friday passed House Bill 432, sponsored by the House Resources Committee. HB 432 extends the Board of Storage Tank Assistance to June 30, 2003. It also expands the authority of the Board to issue non-binding recommendations for cleanup decisions in order to provide a forum for the Board, businesses, and the Department of Environmental Conservation to discuss final decision letters. "The Storage Tank Assistance Program was established to protect Alaska's drinking water supplies. It also helps the state's regulated underground storage tank owners and operators meet EPA's tough new environmental laws and regulations pertaining to these tanks," said Representative Beverly Masek (R-Willow), Co-Chair of the House Resources Committee. "It is necessary to extend the termination date because many sites have either just initiated, or are in the midst of, cleanup projects which are not expected to be completed for a few years." HB 432 passed the House unanimously and now moves to the Senate. | Top | Representative Masek's Page | Representative Hudson's Page | |
