For Immediate Release: February 17, 1999 Juneau -- Rep. Vic Kohring (R-Wasilla) was recently appointed Chairman of the House Budget Committees for the Departments of Law and Natural Resources. As a member of the House Finance Committee, Kohring is one of eight Majority members assigned chairmanships. It is the responsibility of Kohring and the other seven members to conduct a series of public hearings and formulate the budgets of their assigned committees. Each individual spending plan becomes a part of the overall State Operating Budget. "I'm pleased to be assigned these two committees, because they are a particular interest of mine and will enable me to expand my knowledge of the Operating Budget," said Kohring. "This is my third term on the Finance Committee, and each time, I've been given different budgets which is helpful for me," he added. Kohring has already begun holding public hearings for Law and Natural Resources, starting last week. A series of hearings will be held that will conclude in mid-March. At that time, he will present his final budget packages for each department. |
