Memorandum
May 2, 1997
I called Alaska Airlines on May 1, 1997 looking for the least expensive ticket to fly my mother from Seattle to Juneau and was quoted the price of $342.00 (RT). Over the phone by one of Alaska Airlines sales representatives, I was told that a 21 day advance ticket would be available for me to buy on May 2, 1997 at one of the Alaska Airlines outlets. The next day approximately 12 hours later I went to the outlet to purchase the ticket, and was then quoted the price of $439.00 (RT) a 23% increase. Which, after some discussion with the sales agent I realized that I had been mislead the night before and was left with no other option except, to pay $439 for the ticket. I then asked if it was possible for my mother to pick the ticket up in Seattle, I was told that it would cost me an additional $35 dollars, unless I put it on my credit card then it would cost $15. I decided to 2-day priority mail it for $2.90. Its crazy to think that I would be penalized for paying in cash and even more ridiculous that it would cost an additional $35 to exchange numbers via computer! It must be nice to be Alaska Airlines and charge whatever you please with the comfort of knowing that people will pay the price, because there is no other choice.
