"Throughout a complex and challenging session, the House maintained its commitment to address Alaska's real need and concerns. In doing so, we achieved impressive results on a number of issues. I am most proud of our educational achievements which collectively represent the biggest investment in rural Alaska schools since the 1976 Molly Hootch court decision. The House also brought forward a plan to address Alaska's fiscal gap, held the line on current spending, rejected over $160 million in increases proposed by the Governor, encouraged urban-rural respect, improved Alaska's business climate, encouraged the development of a natural gas pipeline and continued its fight in combating alcohol abuse and drunk driving.
I am very proud of the achievements accomplished by the House this legislative session and I am optimistic that the challenges we continue to face and the kind of solutions we put forth will continue to engage the attention of the Alaska public and provide a guide for future legislatures."
