Paving Alaska Highway

Relating to reconstruction and paving of the Alaska Highway.
Released: March 6, 2006
Contact: Senator John Cowdery at (907) 465-3879

SJR 41, "Relating to reconstruction and paving of the Alaska Highway" respectfully requests that the United States and Canadian governments provide $45 million to reconstruct the remaining 18 miles of the Alaska Highway under the Shakwak Project.

The Shakwak Project is a result of an agreement between the United States and Canadian governments to reconstruct and pave the Alaska Highway from the Alaska-Canada border to the Alaska-Canada border near Haines.

The requested $45 million would also provide funding for the replacement of four bridges in order to meet serviceability requirements.
