Sponsor Statement for SB 303 An Act relating to the location of regular and special legislative sessions; and providing for an effective date.
SB 303, "An Act relating to the location of regular and special legislative sessions; and providing for an effective date" would relocate legislative sessions to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. SB 303 seeks to relocate legislative sessions to an area accessible to the majority of Alaska residence. Thus, making it more cost-effective for citizens to access their elected officials during the legislative sessions. SB 303 also saves the state money in the long-term via lower transportation and per-diem costs. Under SB 303, Juneau remains the Capital City of Alaska. This legislation does not affect the Governor or the executive branch. SB 303 provides for legislative sessions to be held in the Municipality of Anchorage until the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly approves a suitable location within the borough's boundaries. # # # Attachments:
