Alaska Veterans Advisory Council

An Act establishing the Alaska Veterans Advisory Council; and providing for an effective date.

House Committee Substitute for Senate Bill 2009 (Finance) establishes an 11 member Veterans Advisory Council within the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The Council will make recommendations to the Governor and the Department of Veterans Affairs concerning the needs and concerns of veterans.

The Governor will appoint members of the Council for three-year terms. Appointments will include members of veterans' organizations, state programs that serve veterans, and other citizens who are familiar with veterans' issues. The new Council will succeed the council established in Executive Order No. 164. The old council will terminate on January 1, 2003 at which time the new Council established by this legislation will become effective.
