Sponsor Statement for HB 526 An Act relating to the deadline for filing disclosure statements for public members of the Select Committee on Legislative Ethics.
House Bill 526 was introduced at the request of the Select Committee on Legislative Ethics. The current statute, AS 24.60.210, requires public members of the ethics committee to file a financial disclosure on or before March 15th of each year. House Bill 526 would require the public members of the committee to file their disclosures on or before the second Monday in January. This recommended change, according to the committee, would benefit the legislature and public member nominees. The legislature would have the opportunity to review financial information along with their resume during the public hearing process. The public member nominee would be aware of financial disclosure requirements prior to being confirmed. A recent nominee confirmed by the legislature resigned due to the extensive disclosure reporting requirements. # # # Attachments:
