Trooper Hans-Peter Lothar Roelle is remembered for his dedication to his work and his devotion to his family. He was a generous man, volunteering regularly at his children's elementary school, coaching soccer at the Boys and Girls Club, and coming to the aid of others even when he wasn't on duty. He was loved and respected by coworkers, by the community, and by the truckers along the route he patrolled. Trooper Roelle cared, sacrificing his life in an attempt to save others. He was a model of bravery, a hero both in his life and in his death. Officer Justin Todd Wollam is remembered for his outstanding service to the community and for his love of family. He quickly earned the admiration of fellow officers with his enthusiasm for law enforcement and his special way with people. Officer Wollam died in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice. At a recent memorial service there was a sign reading: "Not all heroes live in New York." With HB 507, the Alaska State Legislature commemorates its fallen heroes, naming landmarks in their honor. After being amended in the Senate Transportation Committee, HB 507 also names the portion of the Richardson Highway between milepost 10 and milepost 57 after mail carrier Emil Wegner, the rest area on Officer Justin Todd Wollam Memorial Bike Trail near mile 8.7 of the Glenn Highway after Wendy Ann Cogdell, and Bridge 388 over Ohmer Creek at mile 20.2 on the Mitkof Highway south of Petersburg after Katelyn Ohmer Markley. # # # Attachments:
