Pipeline Committee Delegates Traveling To Canada
(ANCHORAGE) - Members of the Joint Committee on Natural Gas Pipelines will visit Western Canada to meet with local government representatives there to discuss the issues surrounding bringing natural gas from the northern coastlines of Alaska and Canada to market. "Alaska has a lot in common with Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories," said Sen. John Torgerson (R-Kasilof), chair of the committee. "While some of our interests are different, we share the desire to provide jobs and affordable natural gas to our constituents. Opening a line of communication and exchanging information and ideas will ultimately serve all of our interests." The delegation will arrive in Canada on Aug. 20 and will visit Whitehorse, YT; Yellowknife, NT; Edmonton, AB; and Victoria, BC over four days. The members of the delegation are:
"The more research I do and involvement I have with the efforts to commercialize Alaska's North Slope natural gas reserves, the more I realize how much we need an open forum for Alaska and Canada to discuss the construction of natural gas pipelines," said Torgerson. "I look forward to this visit as the first part of an ongoing conversation." # # # Attachments:
