Pipeline Committee to Hold Public Hearing In July
(Anchorage) - The Joint Committee on Natural Gas Pipelines will hold public hearings on July 17 - 18, 2001, on the current status of a natural gas pipeline to carry Alaska's gas to market. The hearings will begin at 9 a.m. on both days and will be held in the Basement Conference Room at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office, 715 W. 4th Avenue. On Tuesday the committee will receive updates on federal and state government issues surrounding the construction of a natural gas pipeline. Representatives from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Regulatory Commission of Alaska will testify. Both Wilson Condon, Commissioner of the Department of Revenue, and Pat Pourchot, Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources, are scheduled to testify. Oil and gas producers and groups advocating for construction of a gas pipeline will meet with the committee on Wednesday. Presenters include Joe Marushack from Phillips Alaska, Ken Konrad from BP Exploration and Jeff Lowenfells with Yukon Pacific Corporation as well as John Ellwood with Foothills Pipe Lines and David Dengel with the Alaska Port Authority. The committee will take public testimony at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and those wishing to testify are asked to keep their comments to no more than three minutes.
