Taylor to Advocate for Alaska in International Forums
(JUNEAU) – Sen. Robin Taylor (R-Wrangell) will be attending meetings of the Western Legislative Forestry Task Force (WLFTF) and the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) to promote issues important to Alaskans including resolution of timber issues, the Ketchikan/Wrangell/Bradfield Road and the Southeast Electrical Intertie. Senator Taylor has supported the Intertie since it's inception and has been a strong proponent of a hard link connecting all of Southeast Alaska to British Columbia for 30 years. "Building a hard link to Canada is vital for a healthy economy in Southeast Alaska," said Taylor. "Because of recent changes in the government of British Columbia, I think the climate for constructing a hard link is vastly improved. I will be meeting with B.C.'s ministers of Transportation and Resources to discuss this issue while I am in Whistler." The WLFTF is comprised of legislators from Alaska, California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia. Taylor, a long-time member, has twice chaired the task force. This year's meeting will take place July 25 - 28 in Whistler, B.C. PNWER is a statutory public/private partnership created by the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington and the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia and Yukon Territory. The partnership serves to enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for all citizens of the region and to facilitate regional policy coordination. A primary topic of those meetings will be energy, ANWAR and the Alaska Gas Pipeline. Senator Taylor is advocating an all Alaska line. # # # Attachments:
