Scalzi Invites Alaskans to Town Meeting
(HOMER) - Rep. Drew Scalzi today invited Kenai Peninsula residents to a Town Meeting in Homer on Thursday, Aug. 9 to share their views on the State of Alaska's current financial situation and their ideas and goals for the state's financial future. "State government plays an important part in the lives of all Alaskans, and it is important everyone gets the chance to speak up about how they want to meet the financial challenges and opportunities we are facing in the not-too-distant future," said Scalzi, a member of the Fiscal Policy Caucus. The Caucus is a bipartisan group of state legislators seeking to build public awareness of and support for better long-range state financial planning. The meeting at the Land's End Resort in Homer will open at 6 p.m. with a slide presentation from Deputy Commissioner Larry Persily of the Alaska Department of Revenue, describing where the money to fund government comes from and what services it buys. Scalzi will follow with a presentation on financial planning bills currently pending in the state Legislature, and on the history of sales taxes in the state. At 7 p.m., the meeting will open up to allow members of the public to share their views on the state's financial future and to ask questions of Scalzi, Persily and others. The meeting is part of a series of town meetings the Fiscal Policy Caucus has scheduled around the state this summer and fall. All interested members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend the Fiscal Policy Caucus town meetings. Thursday, Aug. 9 - Lands End Resort
