Rep. Eldon Mulder Decides to Retire
(ANCHORAGE) – Rep. Eldon Mulder (R-Muldoon/Fort Richardson) announced this morning he would not seek a sixth term in the Alaska House of Representatives. Mulder was first elected in November of 1992. He is currently co-chair of the House Finance Committee and co-chair of the Joint Armed Services Committee. "My family has always been the most important part of my life and they deserve more of my attention," said Mulder, who has two daughters, Corey, 7, and MacKenzie, 10. "My girls are at an age where they need more of my time. It's time for me to take some time away from elective office and spend more and better quality time with my wife and two girls." "Serving in the Alaska Legislature has been a truly wonderful experience. I will miss my colleagues and my constituents. I will miss working on the many issues that are so important to our state," Mulder said. "As I reflect on the past 10 years, I am pleased at the number of new schools we have built in both rural and urban Alaska - more than any other time in our history. I am pleased that we have preserved Ft. Rich through the past BRAC rounds and the way we have improved our relations with the military in our state. And, I am happy to have been part of a rebuilding of the Muldoon area, especially our local schools. More than ever, I'm proud to be a Muldooner!" Mulder will continue his service representing District 23 until his term expires in January 2003. Until then, he will continue a busy schedule addressing his constituents' concerns and the responsibilities of the House Finance Committee and Joint Armed Services Committee. He will also fulfill his responsibilities as a committee chair for both the Council of State Governments-West and the National Council of State Legislatures. "I leave my new district in capable hands with Rep. Lisa Murkowski," Mulder said. "I'm confident that we will maintain our Republican majorities and will elect U.S. Sen. Frank Murkowski as our next governor, and I will be active in helping make those things happen this fall." Mulder, his wife Wendy and their two daughters are leaving soon for a vacation in Iowa, where they will help celebrate his parents' fiftieth wedding anniversary. # # # Attachments:
