For Immediate Release: January 24, 2001 JUNEAU -- The Senate State Affairs Committee will hear a resolution Thursday that encourages the Air Force to base the new F-22 Raptor fighter aircraft at Elmendorf Air Force Base. The F-22 is expected to be the dominant fighter in the world for the next three decades, according to the Air Force. Sen. Loren Leman (R-Anchorage), sponsor of Senate Joint Resolution 3, said that deployment of the Raptor to Elmendorf will have a positive effect on both national defense and Alaska's economy. "Basing the F-22 in Alaska will bring money, jobs and Air Force personnel to the state. More importantly, it will improve our national defense by deploying the best fighter aircraft technology in this strategic region of the world," he said. The Senate State Affairs Committee will meet in Room 211 of the Capitol Building at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2001. | Top | Senator Leman's Page | |
