Kott to Dedicate E.R. Veterans' Highway
(EAGLE RIVER) - Rep. Pete Kott (R-Eagle River) will preside at a ceremony Monday dedicating a major local thoroughfare as the "Eagle River Veterans' Memorial Highway." Kott sponsored House Bill 79, which the Legislature passed and the governor signed in March, to add a concurrent designation to the portion of Eagle River Loop Road between Eagle River Road and the Anchorage Regional Landfill as the "Eagle River Veterans' Memorial Highway." The designation will exist concurrently with the road's existing name, and will be noted on signs erected alongside the highway. "As Alaskans go about their daily business, it can be easy to take for granted the sacrifices that countless servicemen and women made to guarantee our liberties," said Kott, a retired U.S. Air Force captain with 22 years of service. "Naming this roadway in honor of Eagle River's veterans is a symbolic and significant way to remind the entire community that we continue to remember and honor their contributions." The public and members of the press are welcome to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Glenn Highway's Eagle River Loop Road exit, where the first of the "Eagle River Veterans Memorial Highway" signs is to be erected. The ceremony will include comments by Kott and representatives of veterans' organizations and government agencies. Those scheduled to participate in the ceremony include:
