Rep. Hudson to Host Town Meeting
(JUNEAU) - The Fiscal Policy Caucus, Alaskans United and the City and Borough of Juneau are pleased to invite the people of Juneau to the second local public meeting on the State of Alaska's long-term fiscal future. The meeting will be held at the Centennial Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will begin with a series of short presentations by the Governor's Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Revenue and the Permanent Fund Corporation to provide the public the most current status of the states' spending, savings and revenues. Following these informative presentations we will ask for your wise counsel on how you believe this state should proceed in adopting a viable long-term fiscal plan. A workbook will be provided and your interactive, informal participation is invited. Please don't underestimate the impact of this public meeting. State and local leaders need to hear your ideas and value judgment on tough issues such as spending, taxing and economic growth. Alaska, like our nation is at a cross roads: Either we change our fiscal habit of balancing our state budgets by borrowing from the principle in our savings account, the Constitutional Budget Reserve, or we force the Legislature of 2005 or 2006 to raid the Permanent Fund dividend's source stream. At that point, this future Legislature would have little option but to impose a very onerous statewide income or sales tax on all Alaskans. It doesn't have to be that way! We can preserve the dividend, adopt moderate revenue measures and keep the economy of our state moving. Come listen and share your vision for Alaska on Tuesday Nov. 6 at the Centennial Hall. # # # Attachments:
