Dyson Drives License
(JUNEAU) - The House today unanimously passed a bill that would allow owners of antique cars in Alaska to equip them with antique license plates. House Bill 167, sponsored by Rep. Fred Dyson (R-Eagle River), would make it legal to use an out-of-date license plate on an antique or classic car, so long as using the old plate would not result in any confusion with any contemporary license plates, he said. "This would allow a relatively small group of classic car collectors to find an antique license plate of the year of their vehicle, and, if it doesn't duplicate an existing plate number, use that on their car and just place the normal annual registration sticker on the plate each year," Dyson said. The bill would also end the requirement that members of the Alaska National Guard turn in their specialty plates within 10 days of their discharge from the Guard, and would authorize the state to design and issue license plates to honor the Alaska Centennial Gold Rush. The bill would establish a fee of $30 for the antique vehicle plates. Antique vehicles are those more than 30 years old. HB 167 moves next to the Senate for consideration. # # # Attachments:
