Committee to Brainstorm on Airline Safety
(ANCHORAGE) - The Senate Transportation Committee will hold a hearing on Monday, Sept. 24 to discuss ways to improve airline safety. "Airline passengers and employees are understandably apprehensive about their personal safety in the wake of last week's tragedy," said Sen. John Cowdery (R-Anchorage), chair of the committee. "This hearing will provide a forum to discuss how to improve airline safety so that we can all feel secure when we board our next flight." Cowdery said that the benefit of having public testimony at the hearing is two-fold. "The public probably has some very good ideas on improving safety that would be helpful for the industry, and I think that many Alaskans want to know that the airlines hear their concerns. This will give them the opportunity to speak directly to the air carriers that serve our state." Representatives from Alaska Airlines, Northern Air Cargo, and Era Aviation will participate in the hearing. Those wishing to provide public testimony are asked to limit their comments to three minutes to allow as many as possible the chance to speak. The hearing will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Anchorage Legislative Information Office, 716 W. 4th Ave. # # # Attachments:
