Austerman And Stevens Receive DOT Assurances
(Kodiak)-The Commissioner of the Department of Transportation agreed to undertake a full study this summer to identify and evaluate any "hot spots" that may need guardrails on the Kodiak road system. Senator Alan Austerman (R-Kodiak/Southeast Islands) and Representative Gary Stevens (R-Kodiak) met with David Eberle, Regional Director for the Central Region of the Department of Transportation and Regional Facilities last month. The need for guardrails was one of the topics under discussion. Today Eberle indicated that a consultant will be hired to do the work. "The field data collection and site reviews won't begin until later this summer," said Representative Stevens. The goal is to first identify the critical areas early in the process so DOT can attempt to secure some construction funding for an initial project to install guardrails in the most critical areas next summer, Eberle said. "There have been to many senseless accidents because of a lack of guardrails," said Austerman. "This is a good start to solving those problems." # # # Attachments:
