Representative Beverly Masek Seeks Majority Leader Position
(Juneau) - Representative Beverly Masek (R-Willow) announced today her bid to become the Majority Leader for the House of Representatives. Representative Masek said, "Since being elected to the House in 1994, I have had the opportunity to grow and understand the broad spectrum of issues that face members of the House and issues that face all Alaskans." Masek said, "There are a large number of freshman legislators joining us in Juneau this session and as Majority Leader I would work to help them develop their knowledge of the myriad issues and processes necessary to make the legislature function cohesively and to ensure the process works." Masek continued by saying, "Since the appointment of Lisa Murkowski to the US Senate, only two women are in the role of a standing committee chair in the House. As both a woman and alaska native, if selected as the Majority Leader, I would bring a solid understanding of issues facing both rural and urban Alaskans and would foster understanding, diversity, growth and development within the House leadership." The House majority caucus is scheduled to hold a meeting before the start of session to select a new Majority Leader. Masek concluded by saying, "I have been in contact with and will continue to speak with all members of the majority to elicit their support for my efforts. My selection would ensure the voice of all Alaskans being heard." # # # Attachments:
