Dear Neighbors:

The good folks at the Federation of Community Councils have sent information about a public comment opportunity regarding West Dowling Road and classes that are being offered so we are better prepared for emergencies. I thought you might be interested.

As always, please contact me if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions about these or any other topics.

Department of Transportation Open Houses - West Dowling Road

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) needs your input as they begin the process of developing an environmental document regarding the proposed connection of West Dowling Road to serve the long-term transportation needs of the City of Anchorage. The project area would connect West Dowling Road from the Old Seward Highway west to Minnesota Drive and provide east/west traffic flow, reduce traffic on Tudor Road and help to implement the goal of developing a more connected roadway pattern. The Anchorage Long-Range Transportation Plan has identified this project as one of the top three projects to complete and anticipates the roadway will be a minimum of four lanes wide.

They have scheduled two public open houses for tomorrow, Wednesday, October 30, 2002. The first will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the ADOT&PF conference room, 4111 Aviation Drive. The second will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Campbell Elementary, 7206 Rovenna Street.

There is no proposed or preferred route at this time. This study will develop and analyze a range of reasonable alternatives, including leaving things the way they are. It is anticipated that a preferred alternative will be identified in the Winter of 2004.

At the upcoming open houses, project staff will be on hand to answer questions and displays of information will be available for more information.

Project Manager Miriam Tanaka, Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities at 269-0546, or Dan Simpson, HDR Alaska, Inc. Project Team Manager at 274-2000.
