"We want to make certain that all students are treated equally."
- Rep. Neuman
(Juneau) - House Concurrent Resolution 25, sponsored by Representative Mark Neuman (R-Mat-Su), addressing the 2004 Alaska Department of Education and Early Development's regulations has passed through the House Special Committee on Education.
The regulations put funding restrictions on statewide students while eliminating many of the educational choices previously available to them. Because different rules are in effect for in-district and out-of-district school programs, there is disparity between the programs and the opportunities available to the students due only to where they reside.
Representative Neuman's resolution urges that all students be treated equally - regardless of the program in which they are enrolled. "Interpretation of these regulations is having a negative impact on more than 8,000 home schooled and correspondence students," said Representative Neuman. "We want to make certain that all students are treated equally."
