"It is my duty to do my utmost to serve the State of Alaska and my constituents and I look forward to working with all members of the legislature to further develop priorities and accomplish the goals of Alaskans."
- Senator-elect McGuire
(Anchorage) - The Senate Majority Working Group has added a new member to its ranks today. Senator-elect Lesil McGuire (R - Anchorage) is now the 15th member of the bipartisan majority.
"My neighbors and friends have continued to honor me by electing me to represent them in Juneau. I am humbled by this charge and take their representation very seriously. Since the Senate organized in November, I have been weighing my responsibilities and commitments to my constituents very carefully and have concluded that their best representation will be possible by joining the Senate majority. Voters have sent a clear message that they value the State of Alaska's best interest above any party affiliation or majority/minority position. It is my duty to do my utmost to serve the State of Alaska and my constituents and I look forward to working with all members of the legislature to further develop priorities and accomplish the goals of Alaskans," said Senator-elect McGuire.
The Senate Majority Working Group now consists of 15 members, six republicans and nine democrats. The first session of the 25th Alaska Legislature gets underway in Juneau on January 16, 2007.
