"As the legislature is looking at ways to assist communities financially, it is a logical step to maintain the 70% reimbursement of the bonds."
- Rep. McGuire
(Juneau) - Representative Lesil McGuire (R-Anchorage) introduced an amendment that passed the House Rules Committee to restore school construction bond reimbursement to 70%. The amendment was attached to HB 13, the school construction bond reimbursement bill offered by Representative Carl Gatto (R-Palmer).
The amendment restores bond reimbursement to 70% for Department of Education approved projects and 60% for unapproved projects, making the funding levels consistent with years past.
"As the legislature is looking at ways to assist communities financially, it is a logical step to maintain the 70% reimbursement of the bonds. As many areas of our state continue to grow, the ability to build new schools so that our children have places to learn will become even more important. The majority continues its support of education in Alaska and ensuring that our educational facilities meet the needs of our students and communities," said Representative McGuire.
