"HB 127 will add Peace Corps volunteers and U.S. Foreign Diplomats as an allowable absence for the purposes of filing and receiving their dividend."
- Rep. McGuire
(JUNEAU) - Representative Lesil McGuire (R-Anchorage) has introduced House Bill 127, legislation to ensure that Alaskans serving as Diplomats in the United States Foreign Service or in the Peace Corps will still be eligible to receive their Permanent Fund Dividend.
"College students, those taking care of loved ones in another state, those serving in the military and staff of members of Congress all qualify for exemptions when applying for the Permanent Fund Dividend, but somehow two very important services to our country have been excluded from this list," said Representative McGuire. She went on to say, "HB 127 will add Peace Corps volunteers and U.S. Foreign Diplomats as an allowable absence for the purposes of filing and receiving their dividend".
HB 127 has been referred to the House Committee on State Affairs and the House Finance Committee.
