(JUNEAU) - Rep. Lesil McGuire (R-Anchorage) applauded Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau's recommendation today to include the entirety of the Bayshore Elementary School boundary in the new Dimond High School boundary and to extend the public comment period for two more Anchorage School Board meetings.

After dozens of constituents contacted her during the last few weeks, McGuire began her contribution to this issue by calling Superintendent Comeau and Executive Director of High School Education Mike Henry. She expressed concern about the school boundary task force's "scenario A" that placed Bayshore Elementary School in the same boundary as the new south Anchorage high school instead of the closer Dimond High School. McGuire also requested more public comment on the boundary changes.

Earlier this week, Rep. McGuire, Rep. Ralph Samuels (R-Anchorage) and staff for Sen. Ben Stevens (R-Anchorage) met with Superintendent Comeau. They asked Comeau to explain the school boundary proposal and expressed their concerns as well as those of their constituents.

"I felt that the meeting was very positive and that each of us respected the others' positions on this issue," McGuire said. "At that time Carol seemed open to consider including the Bayshore Elementary families in the new Dimond area. Superintendent Comeau's decision today clearly demonstrates her commitment to the families of the Bayshore area and I sincerely appreciate her time, her consideration, and ultimately her wisdom in handling this matter."
