(Juneau) - The Alaska State Senate passed House Bill 41 by a vote of 19 to 1 and the House concurred with Senate changes last night prior to adjournment, sine die. Sponsored by Representative Bob Lynn (R-Anchorage), House Bill 41 revises sentencing guidelines to require a 60-day mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for assaults in the fourth degree committed on school grounds, on a school bus, at a school-sponsored event, or at certain school district administration offices.
"This bill gives another level of protection to our administrators, teachers and students by assuring them that assaults will not be tolerated at our schools," Representative Lynn said. "If you commit 4th degree assault at these location, you will spend 60 days in jail."
HB 41 now moves to the Governor for his signature.
