"The United States Coast Guard performs vital functions for Alaska and ironically, with the greatest number of personnel per capita working in Alaska, does not have an ROTC."
- Rep. Lynn
"Relating to the establishment of Reserve Officer Training Corps programs in Alaska by the United States Coast Guard."
Our Alaska Reserve Officers' Training Corps [ROTC] provides more than a career stepping stone for individuals into the armed forces; it is vital linkage of transition for the military and serves as support during state and national crises.
The United States Coast Guard performs vital functions for Alaska and ironically, with the greatest number of personnel per capita working in Alaska, does not have an ROTC. Its absence is glaring. The standard operations of the USCG, search & rescue, maritime law enforcement, navigational assistance, and environmental protection, are of value and interest to every Alaskan.
With what would be cardinal enhancement to our University and State, HJR 29 urges the United States Coast Guard and our national officials to establish and fund a United States Coast Guard ROTC program.
