"We need to move supplies and materials in the most cost efficient means possible."
- Rep. Lynn
Juneau - The State House of Representatives approved House Concurrent Resolution 2 today by a vote of 36 to one in support of a rail extension to Fort Greely. HCR 2 requests Governor Murkowski to encourage the Alaska Railroad to construct the 70-mile rail link. Rep. Bob Lynn (R-Anchorage) said the link is important to help construct the missile defense shield and protect national security.
"We need to move supplies and materials in the most cost efficient means possible," Rep. Lynn said.
Lynn said the rail link supported by HCR 2 will also improve the local economy of communities along the extension as well as the economy of the state.
"Development grows along any transportation corridor," Lynn said. "As far as the long-term prospects are concerned, it puts us 70 miles closer to connecting to the Canadian rail system and the Lower 48 which would be a tremendous boon to the economy of Alaska."
