"However, the fact is, several good things were accomplished, including passing an operating budget that substantially increased school funding, a capital budget that funds numerous major road projects, and legislation that will result in schools being built."
- Rep. Kohring
(JUNEAU) - Despite ample criticism by Minority Democrats, the special legislative session that concluded yesterday was a success and worth the effort, according to Rep. Vic Kohring (R-Wasilla/Mat-Su).
"It's easy to criticize and point finders when you're looking in from the outside. However, the fact is, several good things were accomplished, including passing an operating budget that substantially increased school funding, a capital budget that funds numerous major road projects, and legislation that will result in schools being built" said Kohring.
Kohring noted how the Valley benefits greatly from lawmakers efforts, including funding for Palmer-Wasilla Highway, Seward Meridian and the Parks Highway improvements. The Mat-Su will also be able to take advantage of bond debt reimbursement legislation that will fund the construction of new schools.
He added that after four long months in Juneau for the regular session, it was especially difficult to be called in to a special session for an additional two weeks. "It was difficult for me personally because of family obligations, but I take my role of representing my constituents seriously, so I'm willing to make the necessarily sacrifices to help get the job done."
