(Anchorage) - The surge in gang violence in Anchorage and other Alaskan communities will be the subject of a House Judiciary Committee meeting on Tuesday, October 24th in Anchorage.
Rep. Lesil McGuire (R - Anchorage) chairs the House Judiciary Committee. "Gang violence is a growing problem in our communities and has become particularly prominent recently. The Mayor's Gang Task Force and several faith-based organizations have already been hard at work on addressing this multi-faceted issue. The House Judiciary Committee would like to recognize and commend their efforts and join forces at the State level to tackle gang violence in Alaska."
The committee will hear from Lt. Paul Honeman of the Anchorage Police Department and Dean Williams, Co-Chair of the Mayor's Gang Task Force & Juvenile Justice Superintendent at McLaughlin Youth Center.
