"This past week was very exciting and I am very proud of the outcome. I have worked long and hard for increased education funding."
- Rep. Wilson
(JUNEAU) - Late Monday evening, the House of Representatives unanimously passed HB 233, sponsored by Representative Peggy Wilson (R-Wrangell). The bill increases the base student allocation by $419 per student.
The bill recognizes that school districts across Alaska are facing budget cuts due to inflationary factors. Rep. Wilson called for an increase to the base student allocation in order to assist these schools at this difficult time.
Representative Wilson said, "This past week was very exciting and I am very proud of the outcome. I have worked long and hard for increased education funding. I am also pleased that my bill, HB 233 was the vehicle for this significant increase." She went on to say, "This is an unprecedented move by the House for education. It was the right thing to do for kids."
The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
