(JUNEAU) - The Alaska House of Representatives passed House Bill 46 unanimously by a vote of 32 to zero today. Sponsored by Rep. Mike Hawker (R-Anchorage), HB 46 allows voters who do not desire to declare a political party preference to request a primary election ballot that features only propositions and initiatives.
"This bill allows Alaskans to exercise their right to vote without declaring a political affiliation," Hawker said.
Hawker added that the religious convictions of some people restrict them from declaring a party affiliation.
"This bill makes sure our political process is as open as it can possibly be to every Alaskan," Hawker said.
