"... in the end, it is a matter for the Administration to handle and does not require the participation of the House. As Speaker, I look forward to continuing a professional relationship with Attorney General Renkes."
- Rep. Harris
(JUNEAU) - Speaker of the House John Harris (R-Valdez) issued the following statement after reading the Bundy Report investigating Attorney General Gregg Renkes:
"I am pleased the Bundy Report is finally out. I am confident that Mr. Bundy did a thorough job investigating any alleged impropriety or illegal act on the part of Attorney General Renkes. Perhaps the Attorney General should have been more forthcoming with the Governor, but I feel confident and relieved that the amount of involvement the Attorney General was accused of having is insignificant. I am sure the Governor will have more to say on this issue, but in the end, it is a matter for the Administration to handle and does not require the participation of the House. As Speaker, I look forward to continuing a professional relationship with Attorney General Renkes."
House Ethics Committee member Bruce Weyhrauch (R-Juneau) also released a statement on the matter:
"I am glad this process has concluded so we can move on to deal productively with the people's business. To the extent that there are recommendations to amend the Executive Branch Ethics Act in order to clear up any future questions, the House will wait until there is a legislative proposal from the executive branch."
