(JUNEAU) - The Alaska House of Representative's Committee on Committees finalized committee assignments for the 24th Legislature earlier today.

House Speaker John Harris (R-Valdez) was pleased with the makeup of the committees. "This legislature will tackle a number of important issues this session, and I think we have put together a committee structure that plays on the strengths of our House members, both Republican and Democrat."

"I am pleased that the majority has a strong leadership position in each of the committees. With huge issues like the natural gas pipeline, the public retirement system and education facing the legislature, we have a good depth of knowledge in both the minority and majority," added Majority Leader John Coghill (R-North Pole).
